Ashley studied singing with Joy Mammen at the Royal Academy of Music
Whilst at the Royal Academy he was trained in vocal technique and teaching methods achieving a distinction in the LRAM teachers certificate in singing.
He has toured extensively with many opera companies in Britain and abroad.
Solo performances include: Javert in Les Miserable scenes with the Cameron Mackintosh Orchestra, Donner in Das Rheingold and cover Gunther in Götterdämmerung (Scottish Opera); Germont in La Traviata Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte, Sharpless in Madame Butterfly (Swansea City Opera); Restaurant Waiter and Ship’s Steward in Death in Venice (The Aldeburgh Festival); Sonora in La fancuilla del West and Moralès in Carmen (Wexford Opera and Raymond Gubbay – Royal Albert Hall); Football Hooligan in Playing Away (Bregenz Festival); Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro (Opera Armonico); Blifil on recording of Edward German’s Tom Jones (Naxos).
He has performed the roles of The Pirate King and Samuel in The Pirates of Penzance; Pish-Tush in The Mikado; The Lieutenant in The Yeomen of the Guard with Carl Rosa Opera.
Ashley has sung with D’Oyly Carte soloists in Tarantara Productions performing the roles of Busun in H.M.S Pinafore and Earl Mountararat in Iolanthe.
